Edna Jane Sumrall Hill, known to most as “Edna”, went home to Heaven on Saturday, August 7, 2021. At the time of her passing she was a resident of Strong River Villa Assisted Living in Mendenhall. Prior to moving to Mendenhall on May 15, 2015, Edna and her late husband, John, lived most of their lives in the Jackson metro area.
Edna was born December 3, 1928, in Jones County and was a graduate of Calhoun High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Johnnie Carroll Hill, on June 5, 1948, and they were blessed with 68 beautiful years together before he was called home.
Edna worked for several years with Martins Cleaners in Jackson, but she found her greatest joy in being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Edna was a longtime, active member of Hillcrest Baptist church, and later, was a member of Daniel Memorial Baptist Church. She enjoyed her membership at Flowood Baptist Church when she and her husband moved to Brandon in 2005. Edna had a strong faith and was a committed Christian throughout her life.
She is survived by daughters, Linda Ward and husband David, and Janice Covert and husband Steve; grandchildren, Jonathan Shook and wife Susannah, and Faith Kennedy and husband Brian; and great-grandchildren, Meredith Shook, Anna Shook, Wesley Shook, Audrey Shook, Dylan Kennedy and wife Hayden, Mason Kennedy, Benjamin Kennedy, and John Caden Kennedy.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at Lakewood South Cemetery in Jackson.
