A native of Smith Creek, Michigan. Betty was born February 26, 1937, one of ten children born to the late Louis King and Inez Houston King.
Betty graduated from Marysville High School in Marysville, Michigan. She retired from the Port Huron, Michigan, location of Sears Department Store after more than 22 years of dedicated service. After moving to Battle Creek in 2005, she began a second career as a greeter at the Meijer Supercenter, where she served for five years. Betty was a true “people person” who took a genuine interest in the lives of her family, friends, and customers. Her natural ability to connect and communicate with others served her well throughout her career and allowed her to leave a lasting impression on all who knew her.
In addition to her parents Betty was preceded in death by her siblings, Lois Zmolik, Pat Schringer, Shirley King, Maynard King, Bruce King, and Lewis King, Jr.; grandson, Joshua Miller; niece, Brenda Shetterley; and special friend, Sharilee Jones.
She is survived by children, Sharlene Schaberg, Alfred Martin, Jr. and wife Gina, Lori Villarreal and husband Joe, and Tim Martin and wife Pauline; sisters, Gloria Totten, and Jeanette Thomas; brother, Paul King; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and special friends, Theresa Hill, and Rose May.
