Elizabeth (Lib) Smith passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Plainview Assisted Living in Richland, Mississippi at the age of 101. There will be a visitation on Saturday, August 18, 2018 from 2:00-2:30 PM at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl, MS, followed by the funeral service at 2:30 P.M. and interment at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, MS at 4:00 P.M.
Lib was born on May 15, 1917 in Tallahatchie County and graduated from Cascilla High School where she played basketball for four years and was selected to the All-State team. Lib attended Holmes Jr. College in Goodman on a basketball scholarship and received a B.S. in Home Economics from MSCW in 1940. After graduation Lib worked in Collins, MS and Bay Springs for the Farm Security Administration as a home supervisor. Lib started Kindergarten programs at Robinson Street and Westview Baptist Churches serving as Director. Lib often spoke of her “students” and followed their educational progress after graduation.
Lib was preceded in death by her husband, Jarmon; daughter, Sue Anne Holmes; and parents, Earl and Mary Bloodworth, five brothers and two sisters. Lib is survived by her son James (Jim) and spouse Rebecca; four grandchildren, Jay Smith and spouse Heather, Frank Smith and wife Amanda, Sandi Moore and spouse Jason and Leslie Anne Watts and spouse Chris; seven great grandchildren, Jordan Watts, Samantha Smith, Ashlyn Watts, Kennadie Moore, Serah Smith, Jack Smith, and Sawyer Smith.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Plainview Assisted Living and its staff for taking such good care of “Mammaw”. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Southside Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
