Florence “Geneva” Muirhead of Summit, Mississippi, passed away on June 28th, 2023. Geneva was born on May 16, 1937, to Wren and Estella Freeman. At 15 years old, Geneva married Edward Louis Muirhead. Together they had 3 children, Deborah “Debi” Ann Muirhead, Edward “Allen” Muirhead, and Richard “Ricky” Louis Muirhead. Geneva, better known as Maw Maw, was a kind, beautiful lady with an infectious laugh. She never even held a driver’s license, but let me tell you she was a survivor, a fighter, and overcame many hardships in her 86 years of life. Geneva survived Rheumatic Fever as a child, saw her husband and both sons leave this earth way too early in life, had two heart value replacements, survived a hemorrhagic stroke, and boy did she fight this last battle like a warrior. Geneva loved her family fiercely and without judgment. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her family. Most of her grandchildren lived with her for at least a time or two at some point in our lives; and now, she will live in our hearts forever. We will remember her when we are facing hardships in our lives and need to be strong. We will remember when we tell our kids to go sit in the “cone-er”, or tell someone to go just a little farther over “yonder”, or definitely when we open a jar of “Man-ez” aka mayonnaise. We will always love and cherish those sweet memories with our precious Maw and will look forward to the day when we see her, Paw Paw, Uncle Allen, and Uncle Ricky again in Heaven.
Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Louis Muirhead, sons Edward “Allen” Muirhead and Richard “Ricky” Louis Muirhead, parents Wren and Estella Freeman, brothers Jack (Janet) Freeman, Mike Freeman, William (Mary Etta) Freeman, sisters Bobbie (Ed) Carter, Leona (Frank) Chisholm, brother in law Cliff Chisholm, and great granddaughter Farryn Gilmore.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah “Debi” (Ray) Smith, daughter in laws Woynette (Allen) Muirhead and Karen (Ricky) Jackson, sisters Shirley Chisholm and Inez Brown, brother Donald (Geraldine) Freeman, sister in law Joy Freeman, grandchildren Shellie Coffin, Brandi (Pete) Flood, Ricky (Melissa) Muirhead, Jason (Britney) Muirhead, Kristi Muirhead, Brittany (Anderson) Reign, Bailey Smith, and Brooke Smith, great grandchildren Alex, Audrey, Bennett, Avery, Aeden, Palmer, Louis, and Ayla.
