Gary was born on August 31, 1945 to Katherene and Duffie Hamil. He graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1963. He married Barbara Ann Blackburn in 1965. During the Vietnam Conflict, he was drafted into the Army and served as a Private in Vietnam. After returning home, he worked at Vickers, Presto and as a machinist at MS Foundry and Machine Company. He maintained Westview Baptist Church for 20 years.
He attended Jackson First Assembly of God. He was Past Master of Forest Hill Masonic Lodge #613. He was a past Worthy Patron of Forest Hill Eastern Star Chapter #342. Past High Priest of Forest Hill York Rite Lodge. He was also a member of Shrine and Jackson Valley of the Scottish Rite. He enjoyed handy man projects, mechanics, watching tv, and talking on the phone. He loved to joke and make people laugh. He enjoyed helping people in need.
Gary is survived by his three sons, Gary Lamar Hamil Jr. (Mandy), Christopher Gene Hamil Sr., Anthony Shawn Hamil, four grandchildren, Aleyan, Chris, Lillion, Ella Grace, a brother, Donald Hamil, and three sisters Marie McMaster, Martha Sue Jolly and Besse Lynn Pickle. Gary was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Ann Hamil, granddaughter Scarlet Hamil, Brothers Jack and Jesse Hamil, and sister Mary Ann.
Visitation will be on Thursday August 29th at Baldwin Lee funeral home in Pearl, MS from 5-8 p.m. On Friday August 30th visitation will be at 10:00. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 at Jackson First Assembly of God - 6339 Hwy 18 West Jackson, MS 39209. Graveside services will follow at Lakewood South in Jackson.
Most importantly he was a great dad, husband, brother, and friend and will be dearly missed.
