G.B. Shirley Jr.

Visitation will be held 9:00-11:00am, Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am, in the funeral home chapel. Graveside services will be 2:00pm in the Tilton United Methodist Church Cemetery in Jayess.

G.B. was born December 18, 1926 in Quitman, Mississippi, a son of the late G.B. Shirley, Sr. and Lottie Diamond Shirley. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII, and was a long time member of Pelahatchie Baptist Church. He retired from Illinois Central Railroad after more than 33 years as a car inspector. He also owned and operated Shirley’s Shoe Shop in Jackson for several years. He was a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge, and his hobbies included fishing and cooking.

In addition to his parents, G.B. was preceded in death by his son, David Shirley.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Nell Renfroe Shirley; daughters, Linda Pope and husband Edwin, Tracey Shirley, Stacey Ford and husband Tommy; sons, Keith Marbury and wife Sherry, Mickey Marbury; grandchildren, Pres Foster, Julie Weaver, Amanda Comans, Nicole Swindoll, Thomas M. Barnes, Melissa Smith, Amanda Burt, Stephen Ford, Matthew Ford, Zac Marbury, Rebekah Ludwick, and David Boydston; and great-grandchildren, Allie Foster, Nic Pope, Mitchell Weaver, Hallee Griffin, Brooks Griffin, Matthan Weaver, Zach Comans, Zoey Comans, Kaylin Swindoll, Will Foster, Gabrielle Hulin, Danielle Hulin, Nathan G.B. Shelby, Nic Willmoth, Lexie Smith, Andrew Smith, Alexis Nell Burt, Aiden Burt, and Hayes Boydston.
