Most everyone can be considered exceptional to some degree. For Helen Jordan, exceptional is an understatement. She was born in Holmes County, Mississippi, on August 3, 1944, the youngest of 10 children born to the late Buford and Katherine McDaniel. Perhaps it was the time and circumstances of her childhood that gave rise to Helen’s innate ability to live life to the fullest.
Before retiring in 1999, she was employed for more than 25 years as a delivery driver for FedEx, an almost unheard of career for women of the workforce in the 1970’s. For years she and her husband, Cordis, dreamed of retiring and relocating to the Shuqualak area where they enjoyed spending time at the hunting camp. Pre-retirement they fulfilled their dream by leaving Jackson for Noxubee County in 1997.
Helen and Cordis relished their time together. They enjoyed attending services at their little country church and visiting with their children and grandchildren as often as possible. They made frequent trips in their motor home to Lake Washington near Glen Allan for fishing excursions. And times with friends were always special at the hunting camp where they were known by their CB radio handles, Wonder Woman and Booger.
Helen was a true animal lover and she delighted in raising her roosters, chickens, guineas and hunting dogs. Among her favorite pets were her poodle, Brandy, and her Jack Russell terrier, Sadie. And who can forget her beloved Tom T. Turkey, who allowed Helen to hold and rock her over her shoulder like a baby. All of Helen’s animals were like children to her.
Whether hopping in and out of a delivery truck, hunting, fishing, or pampering grandchildren, Helen gave it her all- and loved every minute.
She is survived by her loving husband, Cordis Jordan; daughters, Debbie Chapman and husband John, and Karen Hollis and husband Kerry; sons, Dale Jordan and wife Wendy, and Chris Jordan; grandchildren, Nicole Nichols-Myers, Megan Jordan, Michelle Jordan, Jax Jordan, and Magnolia Jordan; and great-granddaughters, Everlee Myers, and Casey Jo Jordan.
The family extends their sincerest appreciation to EVERY employee of Copiah Living Center who cared for, loved, and treated her like family.
