
James “Jimmy” Glenn Torrence, 72, of Brandon, MS, died October 17, 2015 after contracting West Nile virus and as result of a weakened immune system due to Leukemia, he was in the hospital for eleven days in ICU. He went on to be with his Lord Jesus Christ Saturday evening, while surrounded by his family. Jimmy Torrence was the loving husband of Lynda Lowery Torrence.
He was preceded in death by his birth father, James Clifton Hurst, adopted father, William Charles Torrence and mother, Wilma Baker Torrence.
Jimmy is survived by his wife Lynda; 4 children, Jerry Paul Torrence, Kimberly Ann Mitchell, Pennie Sue Posey, David Samuel Torrence and 3 step-children, Shane Juan McNair, Tina Lynn Bedwell, Rusty Lee McNair, 7 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, two sisters, Theresa “Cookie” Andries and Candice “Candy” Hull.
One brother, Charles “Peewee” Reese Torrence and one step-grandson, Nathaniel Seth McNair, preceded him in death.
He worked 35 years as a shipping and receiving manager and delivery manager at Sears Roebuck, Co. and owned a gutter installation business for 6 years until his retirement in 2006. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, going on church building mission trips and assisting senior citizens by helping them with tasks at their residence, as well as spending time with his family and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Brandon Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 from 5 until 8 p.m. and Wednesday, October 21, from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. A memorial service will be held at Brandon Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 21, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Huey Dedmon officiating, assisted by Reverend Gayden Harrell and Reverend David Prevost.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Building Fund, Brandon Baptist Church; Church Bldg. Ministries, Inc., Summit, MS; or to the charity of your choice.
