Joan was born on February 19, 1929 to Charles Joseph Haffey and Katie Easley Haffey in Jackson, Mississippi. She received an associate degree from Hinds Community College, as a dietetic technician. Joan went on to work as a dietetic technician at Hinds General Hospital, from where she ultimately retired.
Joan was a founding member of St. Mary Catholic Church; following its closure, she was a member of Holy Savior Catholic Church in Clinton. A good Christian woman, Joan was a homemaker and truly had a caretaker's heart, tending to many relatives throughout her life when their health declined. Many regarded her as an Angel on Earth; she always thought of others before herself, never hesitating to help anyone in need.
In her younger years, Joan enjoyed camping with her husband in their free time. More recent times were often spent completing crossword puzzles, doing word searches, or playing Scrabble. In addition, Joan was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves, especially known to cheer on Freddie Freeman and Chipper Jones - naming one her canine companions after the latter !
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene W. Singleton Sr.; her parents, Charlie and Katie Haffey; brothers, Charles Anthony Haffey and James Ray "Buzz" Haffey; granddaughter, Jennifer Clarke; great-grandson, Keagan Casey; and special brother-in-law, Harry Singleton, Jr
Joan is survived by her children, Margaret Ann Eubanks (Ronnie), Gene W. Singleton, Jr (Alicia), Judy Dianne Casey, Kathy Brewer, Lisa Cumberland (Mark), and Paula Clarke (Ronny); 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, and her cat Tiger.
