Tony was born on in Brawley, California on October 3, 1940, to the late John Roy Chaffin, Sr, and Marylee Chaffin. In the early 1960s, he made his way to Mississippi, a place he would call home for the rest of his life. In 1963, Tony answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Air Force, where he served honorably until 1967.
Upon returning from his military service, Tony joined his parents in farming their land in Sandhill, Mississippi. This sparked a deep, lifelong passion for the land; he truly had a huge love for farming and the rhythm of honest, hard work.
Tony was a quiet man, but his presence was deeply felt. He possessed a gentle, quiet sense of humor and a character defined by humility, pride, and profound compassion. He was also wonderfully stubborn when it counted, a trait matched only by the love he held for his family. He held a special place in his heart for his beloved dogs, Lucy and Winnie, who brought him immense joy. In his final years, he shared a funny, spirited relationship with his caregiver, Aaliyah Ross, whose dedicated care and companionship meant so much to him and his family.
