He was born on January 10, 1951 to the late Julius Clayton Marble and Hazel Powell Marble at the Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi. John's grandparents were founding members of Forest Hill United Methodist Church in Jackson, where he grew up as a member. He later became a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church in Jackson. John had a lifelong love for music and played the coronet in the band before graduating from Forest Hill High School. John then went on to obtain his Bachelor's degree in Geology from Mississippi State University. He served in The Mississippi Air National Guard as an airplane mechanic from 1970 -1976. He enjoyed a career for many years with Cities Services, Forest Oil, and Paramount Petroleum before retiring after 24 years from the MDEQ, Office of Geology. In his younger years, John liked to fish, hunt and was a member of Springhill Hunting Club. He was also not only an Eagle Scout, but a member of the Order of the Arrow Honor Society. He loved music and trying to stump everyone on Music trivia. He was always quite fond of motorcycles. Since he couldn’t part with his Honda VTX 1800 C/F for the Harley he always wanted, he amassed a collection of almost 100 Harley t-shirts from across the country.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Wesley “Wes” Marble.
John is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Susan Blair Marble; sister, Sandra Cazier (Gary); mother-in-law, Mary Frances Blair; and a host of beloved brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, and other extended family members and friends.
