Johnnie Eliza McGough Bradshaw was born May 20, 1920 in Columbia, Mississippi to Eunice (Mr. John) McGough and Minnie Evans McGough. At the height of The Depression, Johnnie moved with her family to Morton, Mississippi, in Scott County, where she spent her formative years in the Sims Hill community. Required to help her parents maintain life on a small farm, Johnnie learned early how to live a frugal, simple life. She would continue to have a long, fruitful life with these values in mind. She lived most of her adult life in Pearl, Mississippi, where she and her husband raised their family. Admiration of Johnnie was always evident through the love of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of church and community friends.
Mimi, as she was affectionately known by many, passed from this earthly realm to her eternal rest, where she rejoices in the presence of our Almighty God. Her 103 plus years of self-sacrifice, labor, daily prayer and never-ending support to family and friends came to its conclusion on Friday, February 23, 2024.
Our hard working Mimi, Aunt Johnnie, Johnnie would want to be remembered and acknowledged as a hardworking, morally principled person, loving mother, grandmother and aunt. She was also a loyal and charitable friend and an esteemed, respected long-time employee at Kennington's/McRae's department store. At her passing, Johnnie was the oldest member of First Baptist Church of Pearl where she was an active member of her Sunday School class and the senior group of "Merry Makers". She was also a part of a Wednesday meals program for the homebound, where she delivered meals until she was past 95 years of age. Johnnie's life was not remarkable as measured by societal standards, but her life is deemed memorable. All of those who knew her have been blessed with the imprint she has left on our hearts and these blessings far exceed the many days she was on this earth.
Johnnie is preceded in death by her parents, Eunice (John) and Minnie McGough; husband Coleman; sister, Kathleen Barnett; brothers, Edward, Joseph Nelson (Dude), and baby brother Mickey. Later brought more grief with the loss of her beautiful and beloved daughter, Martha Lou Gangwer and her dearly loved sons-in-law Bill Gangwer and Naz Rhodes.
She is survived by sons, John Bradshaw, Joe Bradshaw (Betty); daughter Sarah Rhodes; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and former daughter-in-law Brenda Price.
The family would like to also acknowledge Mimi's caregiver's Lou Boykin, Teresa Pate, Debra Brassell and LaShonda Jones. Their unfailing and attentive ministrations allowed Mimi to remain at home in comfort for her final years, surrounded by her loved ones.
Visitation will be held from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. The funeral will follow at 1:00pm that same day in the funeral home chapel. Burial will take place afterwards at Crossroads Cemetery in Pelahatchie.
