Visitation will be 4:00-7:00pm, Monday, April 24, 2017, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Life Celebration Services for “Big Mama” are 10:00am, Tuesday, April 25, 2017, in the funeral home chapel with interment in Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Puckett.

She was born March 21, 1929, in Simpson County, Mississippi, a daughter of the late Bura B. Walters and Myrtle Davis Walters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas James "Pap" Kennedy, and brothers, Ervin Walters, Bura "Bud" Walters, Ray Cleveland "R.C." Walters and Jimmy Vernon Walters.

Survivors include daughters, Anita Feherty (David) and Angela Hammer (Rick); sons, Kirby Fortenberry (Bessie) and Rance Fortenberry (Carolyn); grandchildren, Kim Richardson, Kirby Lackey, George Fortenberry, Sandra Fortenberry, Christie Huddleston, Robin Dietrick, Fred Schneider, Karl Schneider, Erin Feherty, Breanne “Cookie” Wilburn (Scott), and Austin Hammer; eight great grandchildren, including Jayden “Cupcake” Hammer; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces, Judy Walters Stevens and Laura “Tackey” Walters; nephew, Dennis Walters (Reba); and sisters-in-law, Doris Kennedy and Jean Walters.

Nita wants her family to know that she lovingly thought of them often and loved them dearly.
