Laverne Compere

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00pm Friday, April 18, 2014 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services are 11:00am, Saturday, April 19, 2014 in the funeral home chapel with interment in Mountain Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Florence.

Mrs. Compere was born March 12, 1929 and lived all of her life in the Florence/Mountain Creek area. She was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church and worked as a nurse at University Medical Center for 30 years. A devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she loved to spend time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe D. Laird and Audrey Alford Laird; brother, Joe A. Laird; and daughter-in-law, Beulah Coke Compere.

Survivors include her husband of almost 67 years, Lyn Decell Compere of Florence; daughters, Kathy Trim and husband Dwight of Bogue Chitto and Janice Clanton and husband Wayne of Lawrence; son, Doug Compere and wife Angela of Florence; brother, Fred "Bo" Laird of D-Lo, grandchildren, Tracy and Trey Freeny of Brookhaven, Jackie and Bryan McDonald of Ridgeland, Julie and Jason Mangum of Decatur, T-Bo and Keri Clanton of Lawrence, Jill and Jamie Miles of Meridian, Lucas and Megan Compere of Florence; Tanner Clanton of Lawrence and Lindsey and Jim Tracy of Clayton, NC; and great-grandchildren, Taylor, Hayley and Natalie Freeny, Cade, Collier and Avery Ruth Mangum, Taul, Truss and Turner Keith Clanton, Waylan and Ada Compere and Alden Riley and Aniston Tracy.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Dr. Keith Jones, Dr. William Stephens, Dr. Angela Chandler, Dr. McGee, and all of the caring and compassionate nursing staff at SICU and Floor D at MS Baptist Medical Center. The family also expresses their gratitude to Wisteria Gardens and to Hospice Ministries.
