She was born December 18, 1943, in Topeka, KS, a daughter of the late Marion Roscoe Matthews and Helen Virginia Swindel Matthews.
From an early age Linda learned the honor of heritage and security of family bonds. These values were important to Linda and she instilled them in her own children and grandchildren. Her family was at the heart of everything Linda did in life and her greatest joy was found in being with them. Today Linda’s children fondly reflect on the calming spirit she provided when they were faced with adversity, and admire the grace and joy she demonstrated throughout the struggles of her latter years.
Linda was a member of First Baptist Church of Richland. She retired from the Rankin County School District where she served for many years as a school bus driver and teacher’s assistant. Her kind ministrations endeared her to many students and she was often recognized by them following her retirement from the school.
Her hobbies included creative projects such as art and drawing, bird watching and traveling- especially camping and cruises with her family.
Linda’s love for family and serving others will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. And let’s not forget that infectious laugh!
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Warren H. Lewis, Jr.
She is survived by daughters, Stacy Covey (Matt), and Kim Wilkerson (Randall); son, Warren H. Lewis, III (Melanie); sister, Vicki Zingg; brother, Roger Matthews; grandchildren, Lani Stickman (Luke), Brock Lewis (Emily), Taylor Lewis, Noah Lewis, Luke Lewis, Gabrielle Sutherland (Taylor), Catherine Duncan (Zach), Tranny Covey, III, Hunter Wilkerson (Ashlyn), Hannah Rodrigo (Alex), and Hailey Wilkerson; and 17 great-grandchildren.
