Lois Livingston Harper was born December 19, 1923, in Lackey, in Monroe County, Mississippi. She died at her home in Pearl on December 10, 2015 following a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be Monday, December 14, 2015 from 9 to 11 a.m., followed by a chapel service at 11 a.m., all at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home, Pearl, Mississippi. A private graveside service for family will follow the funeral service.
She was a 1942 graduate of Aberdeen High School, and joined the War effort, making ammunition at Prairie, Mississippi. In December of 1945, she met the love of her life, Douglas Harper, at a Christmas dance at Columbus AFB, where he had been assigned following his service in WWII.
Doug's work as a petroleum engineer took them to Alabama, Texas, North Carolina, Wyoming and California, but Mississippi was always home, and they returned for good in December, 1969.
Lois worked at Callaway's Yard & Garden for years, before moving back to Rankin County in 1993 and then worked at Lakeland Yard & Garden until she was 87 years old.
Lois Harper is preceded in death by her husband, Doug Harper, and her parents, Dewitt and Mertie Mae Livingston.
She is survived by her sons, Steve (& Mary) Harper and Gregg (& Sidney) Harper, and her four grandchildren, Victoria (& Landon) Cummings, John Harper, Livingston Harper and Maggie Harper. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, Bob (& Sherri) Livingston, Linda (& Bob) Shumilas, Cynthia (& Ernie) Wilemon, and Paula McKenzie, as well as great nieces and great nephews.
The family would like to thank Val Mays and Jean Thrash who cared for Mrs. Harper for several months, as well as the great team at Sta-Home Health.
