He was born February 23, 1927, in Langford, Mississippi, son of the late Robert Church Steverson and Dora Lee Sibley Steverson. A veteran of World War II, he proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the Asbestos Workers’ Local No. 114 after many years as a business agent and insulator. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason, a member of the Order of the Shrine, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Luther was a current member of Oakdale Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, Dr. Leslie Steverson and wife Beth, and Johnny Franklin Steverson, Sr. and wife Denise; daughter, Virginia Ann “Ginger” Steverson Motz and husband Larry; sister, Erma Lee Steverson Meadows; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Gwendolyn Russell Steverson, he was preceded in death by daughters, Asa Fay Steverson Hopson and Peggy Sue Steverson Steadham; and siblings, Sidney Mizel Steverson, Robert Carl “Bobby” Steverson, Houston Elbert “Pete” Steverson, Elizabeth “Frankie” Steverson Long, and Helen Steverson Bowman.
Visitation will be held from 9:00am until 10:00am, Monday, July 10, 2023, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services will follow at 10:00am in the funeral home chapel with interment in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
