She was born August 29, 1931, in Marigold, Mississippi, a daughter of the late Henry Wachter and Mary Nicholson Wachter.
Marie was a member of Pearson Baptist Church in Pearl and their Homemakers Sunday School class. She enjoyed a lengthy career in administration, having served as a legal secretary followed by several years with the Pearl School System, from which she retired.
Marie's family was dear to her. She loved attending her grandchildren's school events including ballgames, band concerts, dance recitals, and any activities they were a part of. She enjoyed many trips with her son, Tony, to Alaska, Hawaii, and coastal spots, and delighted her family with tales of their journeys.
Another favorite pastime for Marie were the hours that she and her friend, Debra, spent raising flowers and swapping plants-those two could get anything to grow!
Marie savored her 94 years of life and appreciated the many blessings she felt were given to her, just as those around her were blessed to have her in their lives.
She is survived by her children, Penny McElroy (Thomas), Charlotte Alexander (Thomas), and Tony Thompson; sister, Margaret Nicholson Nelson; grandchildren, Trey Alexander, Jennifer Mitchell, Logan McElroy, and Sarah Beth McElroy; and great-grandchildren, Joel and William McElroy.
In addition to her parents Marie was preceded in death by husbands, Elmer Leroy Thompson, and William Charles Alexander; sister, Violet Castle; and brother, Henry Wachter.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl.
