

Marlene Mitcham Smith, 78, died at home in Pearl, MS on Monday, July 15th. A celebration of her life will be held at Baldwin Lee in Pearl, MS on Thursday, July 18th at 2:00. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, the 17th, from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Marlene was born September 21, 1934 in Meridian, MS. She was the baby of the family with four siblings before her. Her hobbies were sewing, cooking, bowling and making a “joyful noise.”
She and her husband started Smitty’s Spuds, Inc. in 1960. The family business later included their two children. In addition to managing the financial side of the business, she made sure that lunch was served for her family daily and allowed for “treat day” on Friday.
She was devoted to her family and began the tradition of family birthdays where many renditions of “Happy Birthday” were sung. Wonderful family memories were made around these birthday celebrations.
She is survived by her husband M.E. (Smitty) Smith of 56 years, daughter Ginger & husband Randy Weimer of West Point, MS; son Kevin Smith (her precious little darling) & wife Diane of Clinton, MS; four grandchildren: DeAnne (Patrick Anderson) of Phoenix, AZ, Andrea Carlisle and Jack Weimer of Starkville, MS, and Jordan Smith of Clinton, MS; two great grandchildren: Jackson & Sadie Carlisle; her sister Jean Gentry, Brother Bill Mitcham & wife LoRita, all of Meridian, MS; a sister Maxine Smith of Moss Point, MS and sister Ann Nell Ward of Pearl, MS, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Sadie & Emmett Mitcham, Sr. of Meridian, MS.
