Marty was born in Hillsboro, Illinois, on April 3, 1949, to Mr. Alan Windels and Mrs. Olive Guenther Windels.
Marty was a beloved presence in the lives of those who knew her. She had a compassionate spirit, a thoughtful way of caring for others, and a steady devotion to the people and commitments she held close. Her faith was an enduring foundation, reflected in her membership at Colonial Heights Baptist Church, where she taught a Senior Ladies Sunday School class with a heart for encouraging others.
A hard-working and honest woman, Marty brought diligence and reliability to her work at Sportique, Fashion Post, and Watkins & Company. She was known for being good with numbers and for approaching responsibilities with care and integrity. Marty was quietly inspirational through the example she set each day.
A lifelong animal lover, Marty spent much of her time caring for her neighborhood’s feline population. She always fed and cared for the strays, providing meals in her garage for whoever stopped by, bottle feeding the kittens when necessary, and taking the adults to the Big Fix Clinic whenever she could.
On June 29, 1984, Marty married Mr. Danny Thompson, and they shared 42 years of marriage. From this union, she was blessed with one daughter, Jessica Roebuck. Marty loved her family more than anything in the world. She treasured her daughter and granddaughter (Olive Roebuck), and her devoted love for them clearly reflected her kind-hearted nature. Marty will be remembered for the gentle way she lived, for how she always put others above herself, for her consistent smile, and for the unyielding compassion she offered to everyone around her.
Marty is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bill Windels.
Marty is survived by her husband of 42 years, Danny Thompson; her daughter and son-in-law, Jessica Roebuck (Daniel); her granddaughter, Olive Roebuck; her sister and brother-in-law, Jane Montgomery (Joe); and her sister-in-law, Linda Windels.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, July 27, from 5-7 p.m. at Colonial Heights Baptist Church with a service to follow at 7 p.m. Please bring any pictures and/or stories you have of Marty to share with the family.
