Mary "Margie" Harthcock

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday July 25, 2026, at Briar Hill Baptist Church in Florence, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 pm, with interment in Briar Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husbands Charles McLendon of 26 years and Clarence Harthcock of 22 years, son Jimmy Ray McLendon and sons Billy Harthcock and John Harthcock, four brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her children, Keith (Linda) McLendon, Lisa (Don) Wilson, Gilbert (Anita) Harthcock and Nelson (Gisela) Harthcock and two sisters, Jean Hellums and Evelyn Armstrong. She also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren and their spouses, as well as numerous great and great-great grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride and always put a smile on her face.

Margie was a woman of strong faith who lived her life with kindness, grace and compassion. She cherished time with her family above all else, and her legacy of love will continue to live on in each of them. She was an active member of Briar Hill Baptist Church where she served as nursery coordinator and a part of the church social committee, roles that suited her gentle care and faithful attention to the needs of others.

Margie also dedicated more than 30 years to the food service industry, spending most of her career with Mississippi Valley Food Service. Whether serving customers, managing operations, or mentoring those around her, she approached her work with the same diligence, kindness, and servant’s heart that defined every area of her life.

She was well known for cooking, especially her mac and cheese, coconut cake, chicken and dumplings, butter beans, and all kinds of bread and biscuits especially her homemade cinnamon rolls at Christmas. These dishes spoke of patient hands and a giving spirit. She grew up gardening and farming, and that lifelong connection to the work of the soil reflected the same steadiness and tenderness she brought to her home and community.

She will be missed by all that loved and knew her.

The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of Compasses Hospice for the loving care they provided to our mother during this time. We also wish to express our sincere appreciation to our sitter and cherished friend, Ethel, whose devoted care, kindness, and support were an incredible blessing to our family.
