Nancey Elizabeth Dodson, 86, of Pearl, passed into the arms of Jesus under hospice care on Thursday, September 5, 2024 while at home with her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her favorite past-time was celebrating special occasions with her family. She loved this above all. “She was the embodiment of grace and class” as well as “a lady” as described by friends.
The family will receive friends from 10:00am until 11:00am on Monday, September 9, 2024 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. The funeral service will follow visitation at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel. A graveside service will be held at 3:00pm that same day at Longtown Cemetery in Crenshaw, Mississippi.
Born September 11, 1937 in Independence, Mississippi to the late Morris Correll Lewis and Mary Elizabeth Walker Lewis, she graduated from Senatobia High School, then Northwest Mississippi Community College, Mississippi University for Women, and finally earned her master’s degree in library science at Delta State University. Nancey enjoyed a 32-year career as a social worker, teacher and librarian for kindergarteners through eighth graders at public schools in Vicksburg and Greenville, MS. When her husband William H. Dodson became Superintendent of Pearl Public Schools in 1982, she became librarian at Pearl Junior High.
She and her husband were so dedicated to public education that they have a college scholarship for Pearl High School students who are graduating and pursuing a career in the education field. She was a loyal member of McLaurin Heights Baptist Church in Pearl where she devoted many Sundays and Wednesday nights serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She served in the church choir, taught Sunday School, and valued her role on various church committees.
She also enjoyed traveling with her husband all over the world. Some of the many places they traveled were Canada, Peru, Great Britain, Slovakia, Poland, Austria, and Prague. They visited many places in the United States as far away as Alaska and Hawaii.
Nancey is reunited in Heaven with her parents; her beloved husband of 53 years, William H. Dodson; her sister, Caroline Brownlee, and her brother Morris Lewis.
Continuing to cherish her memory on this earth are her daughters, Cindy Martin (Tim) and Susan Ellison (Dale); grandchildren, Sara Parks (Peyton), Lindsey Martin, and Hunter Martin; Caleb (Sarah), Jacob (Sandi), Rebekah, Zachary, and Lauren Ellison; and her 6 great-grandchildren, Donovan and Xander Ellison, Harry and Evangeline Ellison, Wilson and Maggie Parks.
