The family will receive friends from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. The funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Burial will follow afterwards at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl.
Officiating clergyman will be Reverend Rodney Bounds. Serving as active pallbearers are Matthew Lavender, Dalton Neely, Nicholas Scott, Alex Brown, Joseph Roberts, and Steve Little. Honorary pallbearers will be Todd Owens, Tyler Owens, Airman Brice Scott, Kohlby Brown, Jayden Brown, and Easton Lavender.
She was born May 15, 1937 in Zion Hill, Taylorsville, Smith County, Mississippi. Peggy was preceded in death by her father, David Hershel Hodge; mother, Hilma Jane Walker Hodge; husband, E.R. Owens; son Ricky Owens; and grandson, Bryan Owens. Left behind are children, David Owens (Liz), Wanda Boykin, and Stevie Owens (Layne); daughter-in-law, Janet Owens; grandchildren, Todd Owens, Lauren Roberts (Jojo), Tyler Owens (April), Landy Brown, Amanda Lavender (Matthew), Ashley Brannon, Larry and Joey Jones; great-grandchildren, Brice Scott, Dalton Neely, Isabel Roberts, Alex Brown, Nicholas Scott, Abbygale Roberts, Kohlby Brown, Jayden Brown, Easton Lavender, and Tinley Lavender; brother, James "Sonny" Walker Hodge; and a number of other dear extended family members and friends.
Peggy attended Antioch Baptist Church in Pearl, which her husband actually assisted in the construction of. Longtime residents of Pearl, they lived in one of the first houses in their neighborhood. For over 20 years, she worked with Delphi Packard in Clinton, ultimately becoming an assembly line supervisor and an auditor. Peggy loved going to all of her kids, grandkids & great-grandkids' sporting events - no matter the age, any kind that she could attend. She was a fixture of the Pearl Pirates athletic spectators from the 1960's through 2023. Affectionately called "Nannie", she adored spending time with them, and made it a point to take off two weeks from work each summer in order for her to get together to have sleepovers and go out on activities, like visiting the zoo. Her happiest times were all of the family gathering for the holidays, and she would cook a fine meal to show her endearment. Peggy was a natural caretaker and always looked after those around her. She especially known to dote on youngsters, but Peggy was very cherished by a number of people for her sweet spirit. In addition, she was a Hank Williams, Jr fan who enjoyed listening to his music every afternoon on the way home from school with her great-grandson, Nicholas.
