She was born July 15, 1927, to the late W.D. Lang and Mattie Crocker Lang in Sebastopol, Mississippi. She is a retired phone operator who worked for many years for the state of Mississippi. Ruby was known for her regular church attendance at First United Methodist Church of Richland. She read her Bible daily and watched Westerns, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy. She was also probably the biggest fan of Josh Turner in all of Rankin county, getting to meet him in person in her later years. Above everything, however, she loved her family. She treasured holiday get-togethers. Spending time with them and cooking comfort meals like chicken and dumplings were definitely her happiest times.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Virlon Weems, four sons, one brother, and five sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Payne; grandchildren, Scott Weems (Sarah), Ronnie Weems, and Billy Weems; great-grandchildren, Brea Weems, Logan Weems, and Josie Weems; and sister, Sadie Brunson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Richland.
