He was born September 16, 1942, in Louise, Mississippi, one of 9 children born of the late Herman Copeland and Ellie Mae Fulton Copeland.
Sammy and his wife, Peggy, were long time members of Flag Chapel Baptist Church in Jackson.
Naturally industrious with a strong work ethic, Sammy was a dedicated employee to the companies he served during his more than 40 years on the road as a truck driver.
In his free time he enjoyed watching football and wrestling, as well as gospel singing.
The times Sammy cherished most were spent with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and his family was the joy of his life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Sammy M. Copeland, Jr.; brother, Herman Ross Copeland; and sisters, Janet Delpozo, Ann Alford, and Jurlene Copeland.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Peggy Reaves Copeland; daughter, Pam Vertucci and husband Joey; grandchildren, Amanda Copeland, Nicole Vertucci, and Austin Vertucci; great-grandchild, Summerlyn Luthultz; and brothers, Mavron Copeland, James Copeland, Shirley Copeland, and Jimmy Copeland.
