Sara was born on Saturday, December 29, 1928, in Goodman, Mississippi, a daughter of the late James Franklin Sims and Julia Ann Hayes Sims.
She was a faithful member of North Brandon Church of Christ until her failing health prevented her from attending.
Sara provided daycare services for over 40 years. Her abounding love for children was never ending, as she patiently shared stories and smiles, and wiped tears from the cheeks of so many. She was known by the parents of her charges for her amazing ability to potty-train a child quickly, and her miraculous way of convincing even the pickiest eater to try vegetables.
Sara had a true appreciation for the beauty of nature and the artful landscape painted by our Lord's artistic brush. Her "green thumb" flourished with everything she touched, from the flowers in front of her home to the veggies growing behind. She also enjoyed bird watching, particularly hummingbirds and cardinals. But her favorite times were spent with her family, and doing a kind deed for a child or someone she knew to be in need.
In addition to her parents, Sara was preceded in death by husbands, Lee Thomas Kimes and Bobby Dean Grant, and sister, Margaret Waddell.
Survivors include sons, Jeffrey Lee Kimes and David Alan Kimes; daughters, Christine Spitz, Judy Largent and Elaine Platt; brother, Jim Sims; sisters, Ethel Wilson, Rita Sluder, Helen McElhaney, Shirley Chisolm and Linda Ashworth; 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorials be made to any organization working to research and cure Alzheimer's and dementia-related diseases.
