He was born May 14, 1937, in Leake County, MS. He graduated from Madden High School, attended East Central Community College, and served in the United States Army. His favorite pastime was being in his boat on the water with friends, catching the fishing limit at every outing, then cooking the fish for family and friends. He was also known for being able to repair any small engine and most car engines. He was a 53-year devoted member of First Baptist Church Richland. He had an outgoing personality who never seemed to meet a stranger, and he will be greatly missed.
Shelton was preceded in death by his parents, James and Velma Moore; his wife, Joanne Lorraine Moore; his former wife, Gerie Ainsworth Moore; and his brothers, Marlin Moore, Carmon Moore and Burbon Moore.
He is survived by his children, Shellee Britt (Johnny), Stacy Moore (Laurie), Rita Youghn, Troy Newsom (Gina), and Sam Newsom (Katherine); 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 11:00am until 1:00pm on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. A graveside service will be held at 1:30pm at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl.
