"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." Psalms 116:15

At 7:53am Tuesday, July 21, 2020, Shirley Patrick Chapman, age 84, surrounded by her family and a close friend, breathed her last breath here on Earth, saw the face of her Savior, and breathed heaven's first breath of air. As one her very close friends, said, "Thank You Father! I can only imagine how wonderful Shirley is feeling! No pain, completely healed and bowing at the feet of our Savior with perfect knees and body! What a beautiful day!"

Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00am Monday, July, 27,2020 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl, Mississippi, with service at 11:00am in the chapel of Baldwin-Lee. Graveside will be at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, 2350 Highway 43 South, Brandon, Mississippi at 12:30pm.

Shirley Patrick Chapman was born April 12, 1936 to JD and Eunice Patrick in the Crossroads Community between Pelahatchie and Puckett, Mississippi. She graduated from Crossroads School, Mississippi College, and St. Dominic Nursing School. She worked at several hospitals in Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Iowa as a registered nurse until she retired from Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi in 1998.

Shirley was a very devoted member of Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon, Mississippi. She sang in adult choir, was a member of the Prime Timers Ministry (senior adults), served on the Hospital Visitation Ministry team, the Friends at Home Ministry Team, worked with our Senior Arms of Love Project at Christmas, and other ministry opportunities. Shirley was a member of the Echoes of Grace Life Group that taught the Word and lived the Word through all of their many, many mission projects.

In 1998, at a Global Mission Focus Conference at Crossgates Baptist Church, Shirley surrendered to missions, and served for 5 years in Senegal, West Africa as the volunteer and prayer coordinator for the Fulbe Jeeri people. She also went on mission trips to Romania, Burkina Faso, Alaska, Australia, and Peru.

Shirley is preceded in death by her father, JD Patrick; mother, Eunice Kemp; step-father, Silas Kemp; sisters, Sybil Huffstatler, Betty Lindsay and Linda Boone; and brother, Jeff Patrick.

Shirley is survived by her brother, SW Kemp (Gwen); children, Clark Chapman (Becky); Jeff Chapman, David Chapman, and Melanie Lowery (Tim); 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Crossgates Baptist Church, One Hope Missions Ministry, 8 Crosswoods Road, Brandon, Mississippi, 39042.

Shirley will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her! She was a true friend, devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family, her church family, but most of all, she loved the Lord with all her heart! "I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day, and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing." II Timothy 4:7-8

I came to know Shirley in First Place for Health at Crossgates Baptist Church. I wish I could have known her longer. She was the embodiment of Jesus Christ. His love radiated through her. I felt it immediately. She was so genuine and so kind. I can just hear Jesus saying, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant,”

Shirley was a good friend. We loved sharing our missions stories and encouraging each other. She leaves a void that no other smile and chuckle can fill. I miss her here but look forward to a reunion in God’s time.
