Sybil lived her life devoted to both God and her family. She enjoyed growing vegetables in her garden, working in her flower beds, and cooking meals that gathered her family. Her pecan pies were a holiday tradition, eagerly anticipated by her grandchildren. She also found joy in sewing, quilting, crocheting, puzzling, reading, watching hummingbirds, and walking the yard admiring all of God’s creations. She was always willing to help her family, friends, and neighbors, asking nothing in return.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arville and Margurite Boyd; her brother, Carey Boyd; and her great-grandson, Hank Sills (Baby Hank).
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Cecil B. Rainey Sr.; her children, Danae Rainey (Tony), Dawn Rainey Sills (Jeff), and Cecil Rainey Jr.; her grandchildren, Matthew Sills (Emily) and Malarie Sills Jones (Marcus); and her great-grandchildren, Hunter Sills, Hayes Sills, and Hudson Sills. She also leaves behind her best friend, Tanya Barnes.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl, Mississippi. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 1:00 p.m. The service will be officiated by Reverend Walter Roberts and Brother Jeremy Vaughn. Burial will follow at Lakewood South in Jackson, Mississippi.
Though her earthly body has been laid to rest, we rejoice knowing she is healed, whole, and at peace in the presence of Christ. Her legacy of faith, generosity, and love will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. Her own handwritten prayer, found in her Bible, reads: “Jesus, stand beside me. Guide and direct my life. Teach me what I need to know. Help me with my work. Let me serve You and others, that I may be worthy of God’s grace.”
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day.” – 2 Timothy 4:7-8
