Dr. Wallace was born on 17th January, 1936 to Felt and Ada Belle Wynn. After traveling the South Eastern US as her father’s job led them, she ultimately ended up in Pearl, MS and graduated from Pearl High School. She eventually went back to school at age 31 and earned a Master’s Degree and finally a PhD from Texas A&M in Special Education. She had a successful career as a Speech Pathologist and Special Education Administrator in the State of Texas and even worked under contract for the Department of Defense Schools doing evaluations of Special Education programs on various military bases. She also served as an Adjunct Professor at the Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS after retiring as Director of Special Education from the Goose Creek Schools outside of Houston, TX. She married Dr. Ben Wallace who predeceased her in 2012. She had traveled extensively and was an avid reader and life-long learner. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafting sewing projects and directing the planting of plants and flowers.
Her family paid this tribute to her, ‘Mother was a very dedicated and focused person. She taught all of us to pursue or goals and dreams with fortitude, perseverance and patience.”
She was preceded in death by her brother Col. Frank Wynn (USAF, Ret.) and her sister Bert Wynn.
She is survived by her four Children, Lee (Aurora) Zebert, Kathy Zebert, Criss (Missy) Zebert and Jason (Sheila) Zebert and Grandchildren Ali Lahouti, Lauren Tweedy, Catherine Zebert Redmon (Karl), Nora Zebert, Hahnna Zebert, Joshua Zebert and Andrea Zebert and Great Grandchildren Sofia Lahouti and Michael Lahouti.
Visitation will be 12:00-2:00pm, Saturday, February 29, 2020, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Life Celebration Services will follow at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel.
