The family will receive friends from 9:30am until 11:00am on Monday, August 1, 2022 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. The funeral service will follow afterwards at 11:00am that same day in the funeral home chapel. Burial will take place at Brandon Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be her nephew, Rev. Jackie Banes and serving as pallbearers are her grandsons.
She was born on June 4, 1926 to the late Clyde Elbert Huffman and Zora Mae Gray Huffman in Pelahatchie. A God-loving woman, Velma was a charter member of Sunshine Baptist Church, now known as Park Place Baptist Church in Pearl, where she enjoyed lifting praises through her singing in the choir. Velma was also a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Pelahatchie and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her faith was strong, and she was known as the family's prayer warrior.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Chastain; husband, Ray Knight; brother, Clyde Huffman, Jr; and sisters, Jeanette Bates, Rita Banes, Dot Gray, Cammie Falvey, and Tommie Huffman.
Velma is survived by her daughters, Carla Moore and Vicki Robinson (Steve); son, David Chastain (Sharon); grandsons, Michael Moore (Penny), Nicholas Moore, Richard Chastain, Glen Chastain, and John Paul Chastain; and great-grandchildren, Dustin Chastain, Alexis Chastain, and Ethan Chastain.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and a friend to all. Velma will be truly missed and remembered with great love.
