Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00pm Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services are 11:00am, Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Star Baptist Church with interment to follow in the Star Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born on Friday, February 13, 1920 in Franklinton, Louisiana, a son of the late J.M. Slocum and May Freeman Slocum.
Mr. Slocum was a faithful member of Star Baptist and a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired in 1982 from the Veteran’s Administration after 36 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Slocum, and son, Sam Slocum.
Survivors include son, Charles Herman Slocum (Diane); daughters, Jean Flurry (Dennis) and Anita Powell (Bubba); sisters, Leona Crain and Edna Nobles; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
