Billy was born in Brandon, MS on October 28, 1946 to Ada and Lawrence Dodd, Sr. He attended both Pearl and Brandon schools. Billy married Elaine Hodges in 1968. He worked as a plumber and retired from the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office as a Criminal Investigator after 24 years.
Billy enjoyed grilling for family and friends, playing with grandchildren, and working on cars. He was a master storyteller and loved making people laugh.
Billy is survived by his wife, Elaine; children, Shannon Hillman (Greg), William S. “B.J.” Dodd, Jr., and Suzanne Edwards; grandchildren, Sarah, Adam (Sarah), Tres, Brooke, Ada, Connor, Reed, Andrew, Sydney, Maximus and Samson; and great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Charlie, and Everett. He is also survived by sisters, Martha Metts, Duchess Dodd (Sherry), and Judy Dodd.
He is predeceased by his parents, four sisters, and a brother.
Visitation will be held at McLaurin Heights Baptist Church from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Monday, August 5th. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 2:00 pm at the church. Graveside services will follow at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, MS.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Billy's name to the Rankin County Sheriff's Department Benevolence Fund.
