Amado left this world far too soon on February 24, 2025, at the age of forty, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness that will forever resonate in the hearts of those he touched.
He was born in the Philippines to Arnold and Aida Guloy and immigrated to the United States at five years old. Amado’s gentle spirit and compassionate soul were evident from an early age. He approached life with unwavering curiosity, a quick wit, and an ability to find joy in even the simplest moments. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds—whether through a listening ear, a helping hand, or his infectious smile, Amado made everyone around him feel seen and cherished.
A man of many passions, he moved around for a bit but spent most of his time in Houston, Texas. He studied chemistry and physics at the University of Texas at Austin and Northwestern University, and computer science/data science at Georgia Tech. He dabbled in different technologies from polymerization catalysts and surface chemistry to thermoelectrics and solid oxide fuel cells, to data science and artificial intelligence. He bounced around trying different career options from being a crystallographer and drug development scientist to moving to business development to becoming a patent engineer at a law firm. Opportunities would finally lead him to starting Rex Animal Health, a venture capital backed (Techstars and Illumina) company recognized as a pioneer in the animal health space. He became a passionate progressive voice on issues related to diversity and inclusion, climate change, and mental health of tech workers and entrepreneurs. He devoted himself to mentoring others. Yet he found solace in music, playing classical pieces on the piano, reading science fiction, and loved exploring the outdoors with his family. His career as an entrepreneur/scientist reflected his dedication to excellence and his commitment to making a difference in his community. Above all Amado treasured his family. He was a devoted son, brother, cousin, nephew, friend, and he enriched our lives with endless love, wisdom, and laughter.
Amado is survived by his loving parents, Aida and Arnold; his siblings, Andrea and Adrian; his ‘nana’, Anna Guloy; his grandfather, Severino Fernandez; his furry friend, Magellan; and countless extended family members and friends who loved and adored him. He now joins his loving grandparents, Amelia M. Guloy and Amado R. Guloy, in eternal peace.
A celebration of Amado’s remarkable life will be held on March 16, 2025. The visitation hours will be from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Forest Park South, 12650 Shadow Creek Pkwy, Pearland, TX 77584, with a Funeral Mass taking place March 18, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Community, 6502 County Rd 48, Manvel, TX 77578. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the National Kidney Foundation and/or the American Diabetes Association in his memory.
Though our grief is immeasurable, so too is the gratitude we feel for having shared in Amado’s journey. His light may have dimmed too soon, but its warmth will guide us always. Rest in peace, our dear Boyie! You were loved deeply, and you will be missed eternally.
“Perhaps they are not stars, but openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us.”
