Cynthia Marie Bridges was born into a military family to James Shaughnessy Bridges, Sergeant in the US Army, and Edith (Edie) Irene Bridges, who served in the US Air Force. Her father was from Raleigh, North Carolina and her mother was from Marlin, Texas. She attended school in Germany, San Antonio, TX; Compton, California; Boston, Massachusetts; and finally Daly City, California, where she graduated from Jefferson Union High School in 1968. She would later graduate from the Marketing Technical Institute in Hawthorne, California in 1992.
Cynthia returned to Houston, TX in 1992 to care for her mother who was battling cancer at the time. Unfortunately, her mother did not survive, and after her mother’s passing in March of 1993, she remained in Houston and re-entered the workforce. In 1993, she began working at Kroger, and a couple of years later she would join the staff at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center in Houston, TX. For 25 years, she worked in the Food and Nutritional Services department, showing compassion and care with every patient she interacted with. She retired in 2021.
Cynthia was a devoted mother to two children, a son, Lenoard Mitchell III (Leo), and a daughter, Tiffany R. Mitchell. She was also like a mother to Tiffany’s close friend, Elsie Chatman, whom she loved dearly and considered “like a daughter.” She will also be lovingly remembered by her former husband and father of her children Lenoard Mitchell Jr.
She remained active in her church community and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved music, singing, and comedies. She was especially fond of chicken Alfredo and enjoyed dining at Tan Tan Restaurant and Saltgrass Steak House. She also cherished visits to the Houston Zoo.
And to Elsie, she leaves these words of love:
“Elsie, I love you and your baby.”
To her church family and friends, she leaves this message:
“I love you and will see you in the Spirit World. Thank you, all of you.”
May her unwavering strength, compassion, and devotion be remembered by all who knew her, and may her generous spirit continue to inspire kindness, faith, and love in others.
