Efren spent his early years in Mexico before moving to the United States, where he began working for the railroad in Indiana and proudly gained his U.S. citizenship. He went on to build a life and career in East Chicago, working as a Crane Operator at U.S. Inland Steel. Known for his unwavering dedication, he gave 35 years of service to the steel mill. During this time, he built a new life in Indiana and became a devoted father to his first three children—Jesse, Sylvia, and Rosalinda—who were the foundation of his motivation and strength as he worked to provide them with every opportunity. In his later years, Efren found renewed joy in fatherhood with the birth of his youngest daughter, Rosamaria, who brought a final spark to his life.
Efren was more than a hardworking man—he was a source of joy, laughter, and generosity to everyone around him. Always ready with a warm smile or a joke, he made it a point to lift the spirits of those he encountered. He never hesitated to lend a hand, whether the need was big or small, and he took care of others with a quiet strength and open heart.
He is survived by his son, Jesse Aragon (Sylvia) of St. John, IN; his daughters Sylvia Aragon of Pasadena, TX; Rosalinda Rodriguez (Abelardo) of Hobart, IN; and Rosamaria Aragon of Pasadena, TX. He also leaves behind his beloved grandson, Jamie Aragon-Rodriguez of Hobart, IN. Efren was preceded in death by his daughter Sally Aragon and grandchild Baby Aragon.
He enjoyed cooking, tending his garden, and fixing anything that needed a handyman’s touch. When relaxing indoors, he loved watching boxing, cheering for the Chicago Cubs, or following Mexico’s soccer team.
Efren will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
