

Esther is survived by her son, Altus James Jr and (his wife Ann James,) her biological granddaughter, La Toya Rodgers (daughter of Gaynell Williams,) (sisters of La Toya, Monique, and Tangela,) also Esther’s step granddaughters; Virgina, Tina, Tammy, Brandi, and step grandson, William Kimbrough; ten great grandchildren; also her sister, Travis Mae Davis, and brother-n-law, Amiagh Williams; and will be deeply missed. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by, her husband Altus James Sr; her parents Ceasar and Myrtle Richmond; her brothers, Ceasar Richmond Jr; Johnny Richmond; Herman Richmond; Jim Richmond, Robert Richmond; and her sisters, Erma Lee Richmond, Helen Johnson; Thelma Phillips; Eula Nickols; Minerva Simmons; and her twin sister, Easter Williams.
Esther worked for Tom and Fran Callahan for over 40 years and helped them raise their three children, Rachel, Sarah, and Patrick Callahan. She also traveled with them on vacations to Hawaii, Destin, Arkansas, and even to the White House to meet President Bill Clinton, who is a high school friend of Tom. Esther was a beautiful person who offered love to everyone she met, and she will be missed by all who knew her.
A visitation will be held on February 21, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the First Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, Chapel, located at 5054 Mallow Street, Houston, Texas, 77033.
The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the same location.
A committal service is scheduled for February 21, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Houston Memorial Gardens, 2426 Cullen Blvd, Pearland, Texas, 77581.
