With deep love, we announce the passing of Giap Linh Do, who departed this life, surrounded by his family, on August 6, 2025, at the age of 91. A man of remarkable strength, humility, and grace, Giap lived a life defined by quiet perseverance, boundless curiosity, and unwavering devotion to his family, community, and faith.
Born in Son Tay, Vietnam, Giap witnessed great change and endured immense challenges throughout his life. In April 1975, during the fall of Vietnam, he left his homeland in search of freedom and a better future for his family. He arrived at Camp Pendleton in the United States, where his new life began with the support and generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Scharre and numerous devoted members of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena, California—sponsors to whom his family will be forever grateful.
Giap was a devoted husband to his cherished wife, Kim Do, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage before her passing. Together, they raised eight children, instilling in them the values of kindness, perseverance, and gratitude.
Known for his calm demeanor and warm presence, Giap was often heard saying “sao cũng được”—“anything is fine”—a simple phrase that reflected his deep patience, kindness, and contented spirit. He lived life without complaint, embracing each day with acceptance and grace.
Giap was an analytical thinker and lifelong learner. His fascination with technology never waned; even in his 90s, he remained curious and engaged, researching the latest innovations and discussing them with joy and enthusiasm. A man of many talents, he played the piano, violin, and guitar, and was skilled in electronics and communication systems. In Vietnam, he worked on radio communication towers, and after immigrating to the U.S., he contributed his expertise and retired from the Houston Fire Department, supporting the communication systems that helped save lives and keep emergency responders connected.
His gentle soul left an indelible mark, and he earned the deep respect of all who knew him.
