

She graduated from Paris High School where she won state awards in typing and music. She began playing the piano at her church at age 7 and remained a church organist until age 81. She sang in her church choirs, was a member of the Houston Symphony Chorale, and sang in Carnegie Hall. She spent her career in education and banking.
Jo Ann lived in Findlay, Ohio, moved to Houston, Texas, where she lived for 44 years, and in 2013 moved to Pearland, Texas, to be closer to family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Charles Jarrell, both of her parents, and her brothers Arthur Hand and William Hand, and her twin brother Norman Hand.
She is survived by her daughter, Jacki Taylor and husband Jim of Pearland, Texas, her son John Jarrell and wife Paulette of Roswell, Georgia, grandchildren Jennifer Taylor Harrison (Jared), Matthew Jarrell (Julia), Kristen Jarrell, and Melissa Jarrell Lane (Miller), great grandchildren Taylor Cabiness, Emerson Jarrell, Lucy Jarrell, Fisher Harrison, and Laikyn Harrison. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Jo Anne Allen and Josephine Jarrell, brothers-in-law Curtis Jarrell and C.N. Wade, and numerous nieces and nephews. She enjoyed a special relationship with her niece Mary Hand Cunningham.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Creekside Alzheimer's Special Care Center and Magnolia Hospice for their devoted care.
Services will be officiated by Pastor Christi Conway at Forest Park South Funeral Home on Thursday October 30th, 2025 at 10:00 AM.
