Julian, the most loving and devoted father, and son is survived by his mother Daphne Singleterry; father Ronald Franklin; brother Marcus Franklin; sister Danielle Franklin; grandmother Jennifer Hines; fiance Shaneva Thompson; son Ricky; and an army of aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.
Born in California, Julian spent the first six months of his life in an NICU and his release from the hospital in November 1988 was the greatest Christmas gift for his parents. Julian was a happy, rambunctious toddler, who got into everything that was not bolted down. He was inquisitive and wise beyond his years. He didn't let little spells of asthma slow him down in the least.
He played hard, then had a treatment. Julian ran fast, then had a treatment. He swam like a fish, then had a treatment. Julian attended El Camino High School but later moved to Houston where he worked in manufacturing, oil and gas until he was no longer able to remain in that industry due to health issues. Most recently Julian was dedicated to his studies in cyber security and was on schedule to complete his course work this fall.
Julian had such a personality and natural charisma, he easily made friends no matter the situation. Perhaps it was his infectious laugh or the way he ran words together when he was excited to tell a story (you wouldn't understand anything he said) that made you laugh, but everyone who encountered him could feel his passion and sincerity. He was a prankster and man of many stories and could easily draw out inspiring conclusions and laughter.
Julian had integrity and never gave in to his circumstances, regardless of whether his struggles became intense or not. He tirelessly fought through the limitations brought on by his health, never complained, was never a victim, wasn't fussy about anything and very easy to please. He was also a minimalist and valued simplicity. He strived to lead a life without conflict and would do anything for anyone, not a mean bone his body.
Julian never met a stranger, and no one ever had a mean thing to say about him. Always supportive and proud of everyone's achievements. Julian's phrase, "That's what's up" was always a positive affirmation. When he said those words and winked his right eye, you could be certain that he was in unity with you and wishing the best for you.
Shaneva recalled that from the beginning of her pregnancy, Julian never left her side. And the Monday after his passing, as she stood in the pediatrician's office, she realized she had never been to a Dr's appointment without Julian. He was a devoted father to his son, ensuring that he was up each morning at 6AM, making sure Rick was dressed and ready for school, with a packed lunch and his homework completed. While Julian could not ride bikes with Rick, race or toss footballs with him, he showed Rick the love only a father could give to a son. His focus was always on providing his son with the best life possible without regard for himself.
Julian was a truly decent and compassionate young man, whose impact will be forever felt by his loving family, who miss him dearly. His untimely passing and ability to sacrifice, support, forgive, and love, has left an unfillable gap in their hearts. His spirit will be remembered by all who know him. And if you didn't know him, know that you were his friend.
A visitation for Julian will be held Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Forest Park South Funeral Home, 12650 Shadow Creek Parkway, Pearland, TX 77584, followed by a celebration of life from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM and repass.
