June 21, 1959 – Forever in Our Hearts
June Lynette Battiste was born on June 21, 1959, in Houston to Dave and Thelma Battiste. She was the third of seven children and was raised surrounded by the love and strength of family.
June attended Jesse H. Jones High School, graduating with the Class of 1977. During her time there, she proudly participated on the track team and earned 2nd place in district shot put in 1976 — an accomplishment that reflected her determination and competitive spirit.
She began her working career at Kipp’s Big Boy Family Restaurant and later spent seven years at WKM as a machine operator, where she skillfully cut steel in a field dominated by hard work and perseverance. June later became a Sergeant of Security at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, but her true calling was caring for others. She discovered her passion in home health care, lovingly caring for the elderly with compassion, patience, and dignity until her passing.
June loved the Lord deeply and accepted Jesus Christ at a young age. She faithfully attended Calvary Hill Baptist Church and carried her faith with her throughout her life.
Above all else, June treasured her family. She loved her sons and adored spending time with her grandchildren. Some of her happiest moments were shared during holidays surrounded by family, laughter, and love. June had a joyful spirit and was known for making everyone laugh with her unforgettable jokes and warm personality. Her smile, humor, and loving heart will forever remain in the memories of those who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dave Battiste Sr. and Thelma Battiste; her sister, Sherri Harris; her brothers, Kenneth Cooper and Dave Battiste Jr.; and her sister, Denita Allen.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her sons, Jimmal Battiste (Kathy) and Jarrett Davis (Tamera); her sisters, Cynthia Cook (Billy) and Glenda Menefee: her longtime best friend of 55 years, Jackie Osby Porter(Albert); her aunt, Gloria Mobley; her eleven beloved grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
June’s love, strength, laughter, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. May she rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord.
