Larry J Dungan, 88, passed away on August 22, 2026, in Houston, TX. Larry was born in Peoria, IL. on May 25, 1938 and grew up in Brimfield, IL. He met the love of his life in first grade. They were married for 55 years when she passed away in 2015. When asked about his greatest achievement, his answer was 'Marriage to Sue Hamilton'. They both attended Bradley University in Peoria, IL. Larry graduated with a Mathematics degree.
Larry worked in Dahlgren, VA at the Naval Weapons Lab from 1960-62. The job dealt with satellites when there were only 24 of them. In 1962 he was hired by NASA in Ground Data Systems and enjoyed working on Apollo missions. He retired from NASA at the end of 1984 and started the following Monday with Aerospace Corporation in CA working with Payloads. He received the esteemed Silver Snoopy award in 1992 and retired in 2002.
He resided in Houston, Friendswood, Kingwood, and Webster during his adult life. He is father of 3 children. Larry was preceded in death by his wife and high school sweetheart, Sue Dungan; son, Timothy Dungan; grandchildren Kimberly Dungan and Jay Dungan; siblings, Robert Dungan, Guyneth Bridson, and Fred Dungan.
He is survived by his son Brian Dungan and wife, Polly; daughter Jennifer Bezner and husband, Andy; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister Pat Savage.
The visitation will be held at Forest Park South Funeral Home from 5:30pm-7pm on August 28, 2026. A memorial service will follow at 7pm.
A graveside service will take place on August 31, 2026 at the Brimfield Cemetery in Brimfield, IL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter.
