Born in Cleburne, Texas, August 13, 1942. Raised in Fort Worth, Texas, the second of three daughters born to Verna and Frank Walraven.
Martha moved to Houston with her first husband and children in 1966. After their divorce, she met George Kula at a ‘Singles Only’ bible study group at Willow Meadows Baptist Church in Houston, early in 1972. George and Martha married October 20, 1972, then the ‘Happy Life’ began, and this past October celebrated 51 years of marriage. They attended church at Sugar Creek for 20+ years and are currently members at Sagemont Church in Houston.
Martha was an avid cook. Cooking was her passion at home, with family, at work, at Bella Vita functions, at church and wherever food was needed. She prepared Thanksgiving meals for the dealers at the Alvin Antique Mall for several years.
Martha was a Master Basket Weaver and sold her baskets through the various antique shops they were in. She was a gifted seamstress, quilter, crochet artist and crafter. Martha loved to entertain and hosted many parties. She enjoyed the activities at Bella Vita including the Tea Parties, New Years Parties, Cancer Walks and being involved in the Bells, Bunco group and sewing club.
Professionally, Martha was a banker for 25 years before retiring from Wells Fargo Bank as a Vice President of Private Banking. George and Martha were also antique dealers at the Alvin Antique Mall.
Martha’s passion was her family and extended family, she took a lot of joy in trying out new recipes at the holidays and celebrations and was famous in our family for her ‘Martha’s Tried and Tested Cookbook’ which we all treasure. She is predeceased by her parents Verna and Frank Walraven.
