It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Nellie Lucille Conklin-Haarmeyer, a remarkable woman cherished by her family, friends, and community. Nellie gracefully departed this world on February 18, 2024, surrounded by her loving family in Pearland, Texas.
Born on December 30, 1934, in Hereford, Texas, to parents C.L. Conklin and Edith Doze, Nellie's beautiful life's story further flourished when she married the love of her life, Lawrence Edwin (Cotton) Haarmeyer, on May 31, 1955. They shared four decades of unwavering love and companionship until Cotton's passing in 1995.
Nellie was the founder of Nellie's Beauty Salon, where she worked as a hair stylist. To many, she was more than a stylist; she was a confidante, a mentor, and an unwavering support system. Her salon was not just a place to be beautified but a sanctuary where everyone felt welcome and heard.
Her legacy is carried forward by her son, Andy Haarmeyer and his wife Mary; her granddaughters, Cheri Haarmeyer, married to Artur Arutyunov of Pearland, TX, Jamie Scott-Haarmeyer married to Austyn Scott, Dallas, TX; and grandson Craig Beeman Albuquerque, NM. Great Grandson Alexander Arutyunov. She also held dear her nephew Allen Ray Conklin and his wife Diana of Hereford, TX, and niece June and her husband Ray Mineyard of Austin, TX.
Nellie’s life was one of adventure and joy. She treasured the memories of traveling to Italy, Turkey, and Greece with Mary and Cheri, and braving all the thrilling rides at Disney World with Jamie amidst a historic Florida freeze. Her spirit for adventure was boundless, equally sharing moments of joy whether it was a quiet day at the beauty shop with her granddaughters, a casual stroll to the courthouse, or an exciting outing with her son Andy as they flew on their own adventures.
She lived her life with compassion, boldness, and passion, inspiring everyone she met. Nellie was a classical beauty with a style that set her apart, always forward-thinking and an incredible businesswoman, yet it was her role as a friend, mother, and loving grandmother that truly defined her.
Per her wishes, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Alzheimer's Society Research or St. Jude Children's Research in her memory.
While we grieve her loss, we find solace in knowing that Nellie is now with her Lord and Savior, and once more with her beloved Cotton and those who predeceased her. "Until we see you again, Sugars," we hold tightly to the love and lessons you've left us, a testament to the beautiful life you led.
Nellie Lucile Conklin-Haarmeyer, your love, and legacy will forever linger in the hearts of those you touched.
