Onyeka Nwabiani, age 38, of Unknown passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024. Onyeka Nwabiani was the youngest among seven other siblings. She was born on the 26th of April 1985 at Auchi, Edo State of Nigeria, to the family of Mr Felix and Mrs Eucharia Nwabiani from Oguta, in Imo State.
Shortly after Onyeka was born, due to her father’s nature of job (public service) the whole family had to relocate from Auchi to Warri, Delta State. Onyeka lived all her childhood, and most of her adult life in Warri, where she attended both her primary and secondary education at the prestigious Nana Primary School and Nana College. Growing up as the youngest among seven other siblings would have granted Onyeka the privilege of being spoilt and dependent. Instead, Onyeka grew up into a mature, very beautiful, and independent young girl. She gained a lot of friends and became a people’s person.
Onyeka was smart and intelligent, she invested a lot in her academic and she excelled in all subjects (WAEC) to get her into the university, even when she appears smug with her lifestyle, fashion, and peers. When it was time for university education, Onyeka chose and gained admission into the University of her dream, (UNIPORT) University of Port Harcourt to study medicine. During her study, she had some set back, when a breast lump was discovered, and she had to travel to India for treatment and she was given all clear after her treatments. Onyeka later graduated from the UNIPORT at the top of her class with a degree in a branch of medicine as God would have it.
Looking back, Onyeka wanted more for herself and family. I will say family mostly. She was all about her family, then she decided to pursue an admission to study medicine in the United States, but that admission did not go in her favour, but she got an offer to study nursing instead. Moving to and settling in USA was not an easy ride for Onyeka. She met with so many obstacles and betrayals from within close relatives and failed relationships, despite these obstacles, Onyeka never stopped, because she was a force.
Onyeka had to work several jobs under the harsh winter seasons in Michigan and Chicago to pay her school fees and bills. She drove not less than three (3) hours to and from school each day. Later, in 2017 she was conferred with the Citizenship of the United States of America. Onyeka graduated as a Nurse in 2018 and went ahead to sit for her NCLEX exams which she passed and got her licence to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in United States.
Onyeka loved life, fashion, social media, traveling, good food and was very domestic. Her house was almost like a port of entry to family and friends coming from Nigeria. She was a helper to many. Onyeka was instrumental for her parents acquiring their green card and relocating to the United States, living, and caring for them, as well as her elder sister and family. Also, ensuring the birth of almost all her nieces and nephews in the United States.
In 2021, Onyeka met and married her husband Joseph Ojukwu and shortly after they were blessed with a son, AFAMEFUNA. She was happy. Life was good and everything was falling in place with a good career, surrounded by her family and good friends. The return of her breast cancer changed everything. She was very hopeful and determined to win the battle, up to the last minute. Onyeka was still hopeful and never gave up.
Onyeka died on the 13th of January 2024, in the best cancer centre in the world, MD Anderson Cancer Centre, Houston, Texas. May her sweet soul rest in peace, Amen!
A funeral service for Onyeka will be held Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Community, 6502 County Rd 48, Manvel, TX 77578. Following the funeral service will be a committal service from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Paradise Cemetery South, 2237 Cullen Blvd, Pearland, TX 77581.
