Steve Gordon, a beloved husband, son, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on July 22, 2025, at the age of 59. Born on February 4, 1966, in Laredo, Texas, Steve embraced life with a matter-of-fact, pragmatic demeanor and comedic humor. He never passed an opportunity to crack a joke. He was a peacemaker and protector to family and friends by nature and to his community by profession. He was grounded in his faith and was the pillar of the family.
Growing up in Hebbronville, Texas, Steve fondly shared stories of summer days filled with outdoor play and adventures. In 1994, he joined the US Army and served as a sergeant. His service duty to his country ended in 1998. He then went on to earn a BA in Psychology and Sociology from Texas A&M in Kingsville in 1999. Thereafter, he pursued law enforcement training and graduated from the University of Texas Police System Academy in 2002 to become a law enforcement officer. In 2013, he earned his certification as a Certified Public Manager. Steve also held a certification as a bicycle patrol officer. He continued his service as a police sergeant until 2023, cherishing the many awards he was recognized for and coins he received for his dedication to law enforcement - protecting and serving.
Steve cherished his role as a husband to Denise De la Cruz, his dear wife of four years, "the love of his life," as he would say. He was a devoted father to his children: Eva Elise De la Cruz, Kyle William Gordon, and Erin Ashley Carrillo, as well as his bonus-son, Neal Tobias Baum.
As the baby of the family, Steve was a cherished son to his mother and father, Rebecca Ramirez Gordon and Wallace Gregory Gordon, Sr. (predeceased), and a beloved brother to Patricia Brown (Paul), Greg Gordon (Kelly), and Carl Gordon (Ruel). He was a dear brother-in-law and friend to Melissa De la Cruz Rinard and Jeff Rinard. He was loved by many cousins and was a dear uncle to his precious nieces and nephews, Athena, Morgan, Gage, Damian, Nick, Nate, Addie, Taylor, and Timmy.
Engaging in and watching sports were his passion. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, Texas Longhorns, and the Houston Astros. He loved playing basketball and football, and used any opportunity to teach his kids to help them develop sportsmanship and skills. He took great pride in watching his children participate in football, water polo, track-and-field, and volleyball and was their biggest and loudest supporter. His love and affection for his three chihuahuas, Jack, Junot, and Jasper, was contagious. In his downtime, he found extreme joy in playing with and cuddling “his boys.” In free time, he enjoyed tending to the family garden with Denise. He had a passion for sightseeing and visiting historic monuments, memorials, and churches. He loved military history, war tales, and teaching his kids about those topics. His faith was rooted in love for his family and service of country and community. He was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Community in Manvel, Texas.
A storyteller at heart, Steve will be remembered for his tales of army life, sports, and his profound love of his family. His quick wit and comic nature that caused hurting belly-laughs will be missed. He was always willing to help and cherished every minute with his children. His legacy as a devoted father, husband, son, and friend endures in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A visitation for Steve will occur on July 28, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Forest Park South Funeral Home, Celestial Tides Chapel, Pearland, Texas, with a Rosary Service at 6:30 pm. The Committal Service will take place on July 29, 2025, from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm at Houston National Cemetery.
Steve's memory and his spirit of service and peacemaker will eternally inspire all who love him.
