Welma Lucille Hunt DeBose, age 82, of Houston, Texas passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. She was born to Roy and Olivia Hunt on April 22, 1939 in Independence Texas, Washington County. Immediately afterwards, they moved to Navasota, Texas, Grimes County. Welma accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Navasota, Texas under the leadership of Pastor B. J. Bradford. She was a faithful active member and remained there until she became of adult age.
Welma graduated from G. W. Carver High School as Class President and Valedictorian of the Class of 1957. She attended college at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. In 1959, Welma married her childhood sweetheart, Willie J. DeBose (deceased), and they were married fifty-two years. This union was blessed with a son, Willie Roy DeBose (deceased). Her parents, husband and son preceded her in death.
In 1966, Welma united with Fiesta Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, Texas under the leadership of Pastor L. Hogg. After his death, she remained a faithful member under the leadership of Pastor L. J. Comeaux Sr. She served on the Pastors Aide and Senior Mission committees. Welma loved her church family and they loved her back.
Welma was employed by South Western Bell Company/AT&T for twenty-five years as Manager of Operational Services. She was a Lifetime Pioneer Member of AT&T and dedicated supporter of the St. Jude Foundation. Welma was a Christian whom lived a life of servanthood; caring for and inspiring others.
Left to honor her memory and to cherish her life are: Her cousins, Deloris Conley (James) of College Station, Texas; Cynthia Hanks of Lyons, Texas; Joe Brown (Linda) of Ornard, California; Andrea and Erin Jefferson of Fresno, Texas; Brent Jefferson of Houston, and many others. Her sister-in-laws Shawnee DeBose and Elizabeth Jones and The entire DeBose family. Her extended family whom she loved dearly; the loving children of Paul and Joan Calhoun, Paula Calhoun Ray, Tangie Calhoun, Patricia Calhoun Lewis, Von Calhoun; daughter-in-law, Carol Calhoun, and all their children and grandchildren.

The family will receive friends for Welma Hunt DeBose 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Forest Park South Funeral Home. A funeral to celebrate the life of Welma Hunt DeBose will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, April 28, 2022 Forest Park South Funeral Home Chapel. The committal service will immediately follow at 3:00 PM Houston Memorial Gardens.
