

He was well thought of and respected as a person of great integrity. He is known for saying, “When it is your time to go, there is nothing you can do about it.” He graduated high school at Pass Christian High School on the coast of Mississippi. After earning a BS degree, he graduated from Mississippi State University in 1958. Upon graduation, he earned his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant and served in the US Air Force for 10 years, as a KC-135 pilot with his ending rank of Captain. He flew in two separate tours in Okinawa and Thailand while giving refueling support for strategic bombers and other aircraft during the Vietnam conflict.
After his military service he started his career with Shell Chemical in Deer Park, Texas as a Chemical Engineer. During his service at Shell, he worked as a process engineer at other plants which required him to travel extensively. He retired with Shell after 28 years in 1996. After his initial retirement he played golf almost daily with The Bandits at Baywood Country Club. He returned to work with Shell in Tampico, Mexico for a year. Afterwards he started work with Enex where he traveled to China on numerous trips giving engineering support. Berry and his wife Mary served as ushers at Christ Church Cathedral on the first Sunday 11:00 a.m. service. He loved his lake house on Toledo Bend in Louisiana, not so much fishing as cleaning the yard, taking his dogs for a walk through the woods, and sitting on the porch overlooking the water. One of his other loves was his music where he sang for Bay Area Chorus of Greater Houston as a bass for many years.
Berry was preceded in death by his parents, William Berry Scott and Nellie Anderson Scott of Paris, Texas, his brothers Owen A. Scott of Lafayette, LA, and Clinton L. Scott of Houston, Texas.
He is survived by his wife Mary of 62 years, sons Martin Berry Scott & wife Anne Keeble Scott of Jamaica Beach, Galveston, Gordon Anderson Scott & wife Tammy Hardin Scott of Salado, Texas, two grandchildren, William Berry Scott II of Jamaica Beach, Galveston & Katherine Annelle Scott of Jamaica Beach, Galveston, two step grandchildren, Kendra Porter Bolz of Salado, Texas and Trey Porter of Lubbock, Texas, one sister Caroline Scott Nevins of Orlando Florida and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services are scheduled for July 2nd, 2024, at 1:00pm at Christ Church Cathedral, 1117 Texas Ave., Houston TX, 77002. Reception to follow at Golfcrest Country Club, 2509 Country Club Dr, Pearland, Texas. In lieu of flowers, you may donate in his name to Christ Church Cathedral.
