

Born January 10, 1916 in rural Metamora to Ferdinand and Emma Mary (Studer) Eckstein, she married Larry L. Ellis on November 19, 1955 in Creve Coeur. He died on August 17, 1990 in Peoria. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Marcella Elizabeth Eckstein; two brothers, Clarence John Eckstein and Ralph Carl Eckstein; one nephew; one niece and one great-nephew.
Surviving are her niece-in-law, Marie Eckstein of Washburn and three grand-nephews, Jerry (Brenda) Eckstein of Washington, Ralph (Vanda) Eckstein of Washburn and David (Sharon) Eckstein of Roanoke. She also leaves seven great-grand nieces and nephews and three great-great-grand nieces and nephews.
Amelia was a member of Sacre Coeur Catholic Church in Creve Coeur.
A 1934 graduate of East Peoria Community High School, she worked as a manager of the cafeteria at Clark's Department Store, and then as a file clerk at Central Bank in Peoria. She later worked as a cafeteria manager at the Insurance Center Building and for Dean's Distributing Company in the accounts receivable department. Finally, she and her husband operated Creve Coeur Cleaners until 1990.
Her funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 11, 2007at Sacre Coeur Catholic Church in Creve Coeur, where visitation will be one hour before the Mass. Father Attilio Morelli will officiate. Burial will be in Fon du Lac Cemetery in East Peoria. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Couer Chapel.
