

She was born January 16, 1950 in Peoria to Elmo Lee and Barbara Lee (Cheney) Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Kayla McGrain and Marion Samuelson; and two brothers, Alan Cheney and Fritz Cheney.
Surviving are her husband, Steve Shineman; two daughters: Brandy (Adrian) Garrett of Springfield and Kelley (Tracey) Rubini of Peoria; one son, Deandre Miller of Springfield; 7 grandchildren: Christopher (LaToya) Dworsack, Dracey (Hope) Rubini, Stacey (Ellen) Rubini, Aarron (Amanda) Rubini, Tracea Rubini, Alyssa Myers, and Aleigha (Paul) Harter; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Susie Cheney Rodd and her dear cousin, Fred Jones.
Anita worked as a chef for many years, starting in her home and cooking unique recipes for her family, then going on to work as the chef for Penguin Tap and later the Springfield Jewish Federation for several years.
She lived on her own terms, was incredibly independent and a hard worker, and loved the Chicago Cubs. Anita was dedicated to her family and was the “best grandma ever”.
Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The family will organize a gathering to celebrate Anita’s life at a later date.
